The desire to create is part of what makes us human.

When I turned my life around in early 2021 I knew that to be emotionally fulfilled I must explore my creative potential and that, in the words of George Wyllie before me, it was 'time for art’.

Within my first major work ‘Self Portrait As a Doll’s House’ exhibited at the CCA in June 21, I portrayed myself as having the peace of a wee dog, he has turned his attention to looking out for his owner and the phrase a 'Human Is For Life, Not Just For Christmas' came to mind as a role reversal situation.

I wanted to condense this somehow to define my journey of creative wellness.

I spent 2 weeks on a film set in July, which included a reconstruction of an anti Vietnam war rally and I developed the phrase to something catchy which I could imagine as a chant or mantra which would be placard worthy.

The first 6 ‘Human For Life’ canvases were exhibited December 2021 during a joint exhibition I staged with the George Wyllie Estate ‘Christmas Day Down A Goldmine’ along with the first piece of merchandise ‘Human For Life' t-shirts and during this show I witnessed the visitors engage with the slogan and take it to heart.

A2 and A3 prints are available to order here.
